Public Press Enters a New Phase of Future

Between Heritage, Employee Rights, and Modernization Imperative

After years of difficulties, the State has initiated a rescue and modernization plan to build a unified national media institution.

The Head of Government, Sarra Zaâfrani Zenzri, chaired a ministerial meeting yesterday at the Government Palace in La Kasbah, at the end of which it was decided to authorize the New Printing, Press, and Publishing Company "Snipe La Presse" to transfer, for its benefit and for a symbolic dinar, the entirety of the shares of the Tunisian Press, Printing, Publishing, Distribution, and Advertising Company "Dar Assabah", as part of the merger between the two companies.

It was also agreed to authorize "Snipe La Presse" to officially initiate the merger procedures by absorbing "Dar Assabah", in accordance with the legislation and regulations in force, according to the Government Presidency in a statement.

"This merger is likely to pave the way for the reconstruction of a unified national media institution, more capable of ensuring its sustainability and development," said the Head of Government.

She emphasized the need to develop a comprehensive restructuring program aimed at improving performance, ensuring durability, and ensuring the continuity of publications of the new structure.

Zenzri also highlighted the importance of strengthening internal governance, establishing necessary organizational mechanisms, modernizing activities and production means, promoting innovation, accelerating digital transition, and digitizing archives.

In addition, she called for preparing a prospective business plan with a precise implementation schedule.

She also reaffirmed the State's willingness to find a lasting solution that guarantees the sustainability of the two companies and the protection of workers' rights, while developing content, unifying production means, and revitalizing the print media sector.

She insisted on the pooling of resources and control of expenses to strengthen competitiveness, expand market share, and enrich the media and cultural landscape, while respecting national memory.

The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, had visited the headquarters of "Snipe La Presse" and "Dar Assabah" on March 11 and June 16, 2023, respectively.

During these visits, he had decided to save the two companies through their merger and the implementation of a restructuring program, highlighting their central role in national media memory.
