Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Announces Germany as Second Destination for Tunisian Students

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Moncef Belaïd, announced yesterday, Monday, at the closing of the "Partenariats de Renforcement" program, that Germany hosted 6,852 Tunisian students in 2024, making it the second destination for Tunisian students studying abroad.

Key Points of the Program

The Minister explained that the program contributed to the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research. It also:

  • Opened new perspectives for dialogue on universities in the Arab world
  • Strengthened the capacities of Tunisian universities and researchers
  • Encouraged the participation of external actors in the university
  • Established links with economic and social partners

Bilateral Cooperation between Tunisia and Germany

Mr. Belaïd highlighted that the links between Tunisian and German universities are characterized by great dynamism, with numerous bilateral agreements, including double degree programs in engineering studies, cooperation in the field of humanities and social sciences, and specific initiatives such as the ACCESS project and the MECAM center. He emphasized the importance of academic and scientific mobility, which benefits Tunisian students, researchers, doctoral students, and professors every year, particularly through bilateral and European programs.

Exchange Programs between Tunisia and Germany

The Minister also mentioned that German students choose to study in Tunisian universities through double degree programs and the Erasmus+ project, and that the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is a key player in this dynamic, thanks to its activity and the quality of its programs.

Closing Conference of the "Partenariats de Renforcement" Program

The closing conference of the program, organized by the DAAD from 2023 to 2025, was held under the theme "Achievements, Lessons Learned, and Future Perspectives", with the participation of academics and researchers from Tunisia, Germany, and the Arab world. The conference was attended by:
