Former Minister's Detention Extended in Henchir Chaâl Corruption Case
The investigative judge at the economic and financial judicial pole decided on Monday to extend the preventive detention of former Minister of Agriculture, Samir Bettaïeb, and eight other individuals by four months, in the case known as the Henchir Chaâl irregularities and corruption scandal.
According to a judicial source cited by Diwan FM, the public prosecutor's office at the same pole had previously opened an investigation into this case for suspected money laundering, linked to an agreement involving the exploitation of professional and social functions.
The charges also include abuse of function by a public agent or equivalent to obtain an undue advantage for oneself or others, violation of existing regulations, harm caused to the administration, as well as falsification and use of false documents.
This case, known as the "Henchir Chaâl dossier", is part of the corruption files handled by the economic and financial judicial pole, which is multiplying investigations into former officials and senior executives suspected of embezzlement.
