Importance of High-Quality Seeds Highlighted by Ministry of Agriculture
The Chief of Cabinet of the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, Haikel Hachlef, emphasized the importance of high-quality seeds during an awareness day on cereal cultivation in preparation for the upcoming season. On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, he explained that the availability of large quantities of high-quality seeds was made possible thanks to the mobilization of the entire sector after a difficult previous season, with the goal of succeeding in the 2022/2025 grain campaign.
Measures to Reduce the Gap between Production and Consumption
Haikel Hachlef stressed that the ministry and its structures aim to reach the milestone of one million quintals of high-quality seeds next year, as they are an essential production factor. He reaffirmed the ministry's continued support to provide sufficient quantities of these seeds to all regions through the Grain Office and seed companies. The ministry will also accompany farmers with advice and technical assistance to ensure the proper use of these seeds, as part of modern and sustainable agricultural practices. Additionally, the ministry will encourage agricultural research to develop new varieties of disease-resistant seeds, adapted to climate and environmental changes, while optimizing the use of limited natural resources, particularly water. All this with the aim of reducing the gap between national production and local consumption and strengthening the country's food security.
Continued Subsidies for High-Quality Seeds
Hachlef also affirmed the ministry's willingness to continue subsidizing the prices of high-quality seeds, despite the increase in production costs. This statement was made on the sidelines of the awareness day organized at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, on the importance of using high-quality seeds for cereal cultivation, as part of the preparations for the 2025/2026 season.
