France Hit by Severe Heatwave: Seven Deaths and Increased Precautions

A recent heatwave sweeping across France is likely to have severe consequences. The current heat has already claimed the lives of seven people, prompting authorities to step up controls at public gatherings and intensify prevention messages.

According to Maud Bregeon, Secretary of State for Energy, "the seven victims mentioned have lost their lives in circumstances directly or indirectly related to the current heatwave affecting France." This announcement was made on Tuesday.

Among the victims, five have already drowned in lakes, rivers, or coastal areas. In response to this situation, the government has instructed local authorities to deploy enhanced protection measures for the public, particularly during sports events. The unusually high temperatures since Saturday have prompted the French government to advise maximum vigilance.

In line with this, Météo-France has placed most of Brittany under orange alert, anticipating temperature peaks of up to 36°C this afternoon. According to the meteorological organization, this heatwave is expected to persist on Wednesday and Thursday.
