Specialized Criminal Chamber for Terrorism Cases Begins Examining "Secret Apparatus" Case
The Specialized Criminal Chamber for terrorism cases at the Court of First Instance in Tunis began examining the case of the "secret apparatus" of the Ennahdha movement on Friday afternoon. The chamber decided to put the case on hold after the hearing to examine the requests for the release of certain defendants and to set a date for the next session. The investigation into this case involved the leader of the Ennahdha movement, Rached Ghannouchi, former Interior Minister Ali Laârayedh, Fathi Baldi, and a former security official. The investigations also concerned defendants being tried in absentia, including Mustapha Khedher. Meanwhile, members of the Chokri Belaïd Victim Defense Committee, who had constituted themselves as civil parties during the hearing, expressed their boycott of the trial due to the absence of the defendants in the courtroom, opting instead for a trial by video conference.
