Tunisia and India Strengthen Health Cooperation
Tunisia and India have expressed their willingness to enhance their cooperation in the field of health, with a particular emphasis on digital health, telemedicine, and the pharmaceutical industry, following a meeting held on May 25, 2026 between Tunisia's Minister of Health, Mustapha Ferjani, and the Indian Ambassador to Tunisia, Devyani Uttam Khobragade.
The meeting allowed for the examination of perspectives for the development of joint projects in several strategic sectors, including:
- Artificial intelligence applied to health
- Medical training
- Scientific research
- Medical tourism
- Investment in healthcare infrastructure
The Minister of Health presented Tunisia's orientations for integrating digital technologies into the healthcare system through the digital hospital project. This project aims to bring specialized services closer to interior regions, strengthen equity of access to care, and improve the quality of healthcare services.
Both parties agreed to strengthen their cooperation in the production of medicines, particularly through a partnership with the Tunisian pharmaceutical industry company, SIPHAT, as well as expanding training programs and scholarship opportunities for Tunisian medical and scientific skills.
The Indian diplomat expressed her country's willingness to support this cooperation through expertise transfer, innovation, and the development of high-impact partnerships.
Following the meeting, it was agreed to establish a joint working team and draft two memorandum of understanding projects, one focused on medical tourism and the other on the production of medicines. Both parties also plan to strengthen expertise exchange in the fields of digital health and telemedicine.
Finally, the Tunisian side invited India to participate in the international event "TeleHealth Connect – Tunisia 2026," dedicated to digital health and telemedicine, which Tunisia is set to host.
