As Part of the National Health‑System Modernisation Strategy
The Ministry of Health has deployed 117 new high‑definition (4K) endoscopic surgery units in public hospitals across the country.
The programme, which cost nearly 32 million Tunisian dinars, aims to improve the quality and safety of surgical interventions for all citizens.
To date, 87 units are already operational in various regions, providing broader access to cutting‑edge technology and strengthening equity in health care.
Distribution of Units by Specialty
- 43 – General surgery
- 34 – Gynecology and obstetrics
- 21 – Orthopedic surgery
- 9 – Urological surgery
- 7 – Pediatric surgery
- 2 – Cardiovascular surgery
- 1 – Thoracic surgery
According to the ministry, these new units deliver greater precision and safety, reduce post‑operative pain thanks to minimally invasive techniques, and enable faster recovery with shorter hospital stays.
The initiative concretely reflects the vision of the President of the Republic, who seeks to guarantee every Tunisian access to modern care, reinforce health‑sector sovereignty, and bring state‑of‑the‑art technologies closer to citizens wherever they are.
Public hospitals are thus evolving to better serve the population and meet international standards in health care.
