Hawaii Authorities Declare State of Emergency Ahead of Hurricane Kiko
The authorities in the state of Hawaii declared a state of emergency on Sunday in anticipation of Hurricane Kiko, which is expected to approach the coast in the coming days.
According to meteorological services, the archipelago could be hit as early as Monday, September 8, with heavy rainfall, strong winds, and high waves. Local authorities specified that this measure, applicable throughout the territory, aims to accelerate the implementation of response devices and mobilize the necessary resources.
According to experts, Kiko was downgraded to category 3 during its passage over the Pacific on September 6 and is expected to continue weakening as it moves northwest. However, even if the cyclone transforms into a tropical storm north of Hawaii, the main risk remains the swell and powerful waves that could flood coastal areas.
