Gold Prices Reach New Heights in Tunisia

The President of the National Chamber of Jewelers, Hatem Ben Youssef, announced on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, that the price of 18-carat gold has reached 300 dinars per gram, while the price of raw gold stands at 400 dinars. He predicts a stability in prices for the upcoming period.

A 50% Increase in 2025

During his radio intervention, Ben Youssef highlighted that the price of gold has recorded a 50% increase throughout the year 2025. He explained that this surge is due to a combination of factors, including:

  • Fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate
  • The impact of the Russo-Ukrainian war
  • The continuous depreciation of the Tunisian dinar

He specified that the price of 18-carat gold could have been around 130 dinars on the local market without the effect of the dinar's decline. Mr. Ben Youssef noted a low turnout of citizens at jewelers' shops currently, due to the erosion of their purchasing power.

However, he nuanced this observation by stating that gold remains relatively affordable compared to other wedding expenses. According to him, despite the high prices of the precious metal, it remains the least costly element in the overall wedding preparations and celebrations.

The current prices and market trends are expected to stabilize, providing a sense of relief to those planning to purchase gold in the near future.
