Hammamet Beach Faces Double Threat: Marine Erosion and Pollution

Hammamet beach is confronted with a double danger: marine erosion and pollution. This is what Yassine Ramzi Essghir, a biology expert and president of the Tunisian Association for Participatory Sciences, stated in a declaration to Diwan FM on Saturday, September 6.

According to him, large quantities of waste and trash are dumped on the beach, threatening both the marine ecosystem and human health. He recalled that nearly 80% of marine pollution comes from land, particularly from litter thrown into the streets and roads, and then transported by wadi waters to the sea. Essghir emphasized the need for joint action between municipalities, civil society, and the Coastal Protection and Development Agency to limit this phenomenon.

In the same context, Ahmed Mazlout, a member of the board of directors of the Environmental Education Association, indicated that twelve young volunteers from the association participated in a cleaning campaign organized on Saturday on Hammamet beach. He highlighted the importance of raising citizens' awareness about preserving their environment through their direct involvement in such initiatives.

This cleaning and awareness operation was jointly organized by the Tunisian Association for Participatory Sciences and the Environmental Education Association of Hammamet.
