Tunisian Olive Oil Production Showcased to African Statistics Commission

On the sidelines of the 29th session of the African Commission on Statistics, held in Hammamet from November 24 to 27, a delegation of participants visited an olive oil farm and mill in the Bou Argoub region (Nabeul) on Thursday. The goal of the visit was to follow the complete production process of Tunisian organic olive oil.

The Director of Statistics and Economic Conjuncture at the Ministry of Agriculture, Foued Landolsi, highlighted to the TAP Agency that this initiative aims to promote Tunisian olive oil expertise and products in African markets, which are experiencing significant growth. The objective is to showcase a production process that combines technical mastery, certified organic quality, and aromatic richness.

The delegation attended harvesting operations in an olive grove before following the various extraction, packaging, and storage phases at the mill. A tasting session of organic olive oil and local products concluded the visit, offering a sensory glimpse into the region's excellence.

According to José Rosero Moncayo, Chief of the FAO's Statistical Division, this immersive experience allowed participants to appreciate the rigor of a production chain that yields one of the world's best products. He reiterated the FAO's commitment to supporting Tunisia in developing its exports, particularly to the African continent.

Atef Ferjni, promoter of a Tunisian-Omani project for the production and export of organic olive oil, noted that his unit, operational since 2018, relies on 200 hectares of certified olive groves. Having won several international awards, his brand now aims to expand its presence in the African market, leveraging its recognized quality and competitive capacity.
