Ministerial Council Meeting Focuses on Healthcare Governance and Quality Improvement
On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, a restricted ministerial council meeting was held at the Government Palace in La Kasbah, chaired by the Head of Government, Ms. Sara Zaafrani Zenzari, to discuss healthcare governance and quality improvement.
Opening the Session
The Head of Government emphasized the importance of the right to health and the quality of care services, guaranteed by the Constitution. The State ensures prevention and healthcare for every citizen and provides the necessary resources to guarantee the safety and quality of services. She stressed the need to rehabilitate the healthcare sector, improve its efficiency and performance, and ensure access to public care for all segments of society. She also reaffirmed the right to free care for unsupported and low-income individuals, as well as the right to social coverage, considering the improvement of the healthcare system a top priority of the State, in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Kaïs Saïed.
Key Measures for the Healthcare System
The council focused on the pharmaceutical system, adopting several measures to rationalize and govern its management, including ensuring a continuous supply of medicines for all citizens and preserving the sustainability of this system. After deliberation, the council recommended:
- Strengthening the financial resources of the Central Pharmacy of Tunisia
- Intensifying control over the pharmaceutical system to improve its governance
- Monitoring the supply of the local market with medicines through a digital platform that will optimize distribution and stock management
- Reducing the deadlines for studying requests for marketing authorization (MA) for imported medicines without generics in Tunisia
- Radically and completely revising the health insurance system
- Adopting new mechanisms to better manage the pharmaceutical system, with a focus on complete digital transformation
