National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) Announces Continuation of Direct Third-Party Payment System with Pharmacies
The National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) announced on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, that it will continue the direct third-party payment system with pharmacies to ensure the continuity of medication supply to social security beneficiaries in the best possible conditions.
In a statement, the CNAM specified that, as an exception, affiliates of the private care regime will be able to continue benefiting from reimbursement of expenses related to the purchase of medications for ordinary illnesses, in accordance with existing procedures.
This decision comes after the Tunisian Pharmacists' Union announced on October 25, 2025, that it would suspend the third-party payment system for ordinary illnesses starting from October 27, and would not renew the third-party payment agreement for 2026.
The CNAM emphasized that this union decision was made outside of the legal and contractual deadlines and procedures provided for in the sectoral agreement. Therefore, it has taken exceptional measures to protect the rights of its beneficiaries and ensure the continuity of health services.
