Despite Uncertain Global Economic Context, German Companies in Tunisia Remain Confident

Despite an uncertain global economic context and persistent administrative obstacles, German companies present in Tunisia are maintaining their confidence in the country's potential, according to an annual survey presented by the Tunisian-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Tunisia) on Tuesday.

Key Findings

  • 73% of surveyed companies plan to maintain or increase their investments between 2025 and 2026
  • 84% of companies anticipate growth in their activities
  • 69% of companies expect the Tunisian economic situation to stabilize or improve in 2026, although this proportion has decreased compared to 2024, when 80% of respondents were confident

Tunisia's Advantages

The German investors highlighted several major advantages that confirm Tunisia's role as an investment destination, including:

  • Geographical proximity to Europe, which facilitates trade exchanges
  • Availability of qualified and competitive labor, particularly in the industrial and technological sectors
  • Quality-price ratio of production factors

Administrative Obstacles

However, this confidence is tarnished by administrative obstacles, which have increased significantly. According to the study:

  • 75% of surveyed companies encounter difficulties related to administration, customs services, or the Central Bank, compared to 45% in 2024
  • Issues surrounding the exchange code are particularly problematic

Call to Action

German companies remain willing to invest and strengthen their presence in Tunisia, but are calling on the authorities to act quickly to remove administrative barriers, which prevent investors from fully benefiting from the advantages and opportunities offered by Tunisia. By facilitating the business environment, Tunisia could not only attract more investments but also stimulate job creation and promote the transfer of skills, concludes the study.
