Gaza Strip Faces Humanitarian Crisis as Six More Die from Starvation and Malnutrition
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced on Saturday that six people, including a child, have died in the past 24 hours due to starvation and malnutrition. In a statement, the ministry specified that "the number of victims of starvation has risen to 382 martyrs, including 135 children". The ministry also reaffirmed that the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip continues to worsen due to the blockade and lack of food and medical supplies, renewing its call to the international community and relief agencies for immediate and urgent intervention. Meanwhile, the occupation army called on Saturday morning for residents of the city of Gaza, in the north of the Palestinian territory, to move to a "humanitarian zone" in the south, in anticipation of a ground attack on the largest city in the Gaza Strip. Last week, the United Nations World Food Programme had already warned that Gaza was "on the brink of collapse".
