Dozens of Tents Housing Displaced Palestinians Flooded in Gaza
Dozens of tents sheltering displaced Palestinians whose homes were destroyed during the Zionist aggression have been flooded in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younès city, in the southern Gaza Strip, due to heavy rainfall today. The Palestinian news agency "Wafa", citing rescue teams, reported that they were intervening in dozens of tents in the camps after they were flooded in several areas, while displaced individuals mentioned that hundreds of tents were submerged in water puddles resulting from the accumulation of rain. The Zionist aggression resulted in the destruction, total or partial, of 92% of residential buildings in the sector, forcing the majority of Palestinians to take refuge in tents that offer no protection against summer heat or winter cold, or to stay in their cracked homes, despite the risk of collapse due to flooding and rain. Stéphane Dujarric, UN spokesperson, had expressed his fear that "thousands of displaced families are now totally exposed to extreme weather conditions, which increases health and protection concerns." The displacement areas have turned into pools of water and mud, making movement within the camps almost impossible. Water has seeped into many tents, threatening the safety of families and their modest belongings. The cold has exacerbated the suffering of children and the elderly due to a severe lack of blankets, winter clothing, and heating means, which worsens the already difficult humanitarian situation of hundreds of thousands of displaced people. The displaced individuals in these tents face enormous difficulties in coping with extreme weather conditions, with a shortage of basic products for heating and protection against water, which requires the intervention of humanitarian organizations to provide urgent assistance and protection to the affected families.
