Gaza Strip Erupts in Joy After Ceasefire Agreement
The streets of the Gaza Strip have been filled with immense joy since dawn, following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Hamas movement. This development marks the end of two years of devastating war that has heavily impacted Palestinians in the territory.
The news spread gradually in the sector due to internet outages and the late hour. However, with the sunrise, a general feeling of relief and joy prevailed, as confirmed by a UNICEF spokesperson in Gaza.
Gaza residents took to the streets at dawn on Thursday to celebrate the ceasefire agreement, reached between the occupier and Hamas in a first phase, and the end of the war in the devastated territory.
Video footage showed crowds of Palestinians gathering in the streets of Gaza City, as well as in the central and southern parts of the territory. The city of Khan Younès, in the south of the Gaza Strip, also witnessed street celebrations.
In an atmosphere dominated by joy and relief, Palestinians expressed their hope to the Associated Press that the peace agreement, announced by US President Donald Trump, would allow them to return home and put an end to their long suffering in shelters.
