Gaza Strip Faces Humanitarian Crisis Due to Flooding
Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip, confirmed that the recent rainfall has caused approximately 90% of the displacement centers to flood, leaving displaced individuals living in extremely difficult humanitarian conditions due to the Zionist aggression.
In statements to the press on Wednesday, Mr. Bassal specified that the tents do not provide the minimum protection for citizens against weather depressions. He emphasized the urgent need to introduce mobile homes as an immediate solution to alleviate the suffering of the inhabitants and face the consequences of winter.
The spokesperson indicated that the recent storms have caused the flooding of more than 27,000 tents sheltering displaced people, a situation he described as "catastrophic." The damage affects a total of more than 53,000 tents, partially or totally destroyed.
According to a previous statement from the Gaza press office, more than a quarter of a million displaced people have been directly affected, out of a total of approximately 1.5 million people living in tents and precarious shelters, lacking the most basic security and protection conditions.
