Deterioration of Environmental and Health Situation in Gabès at the Center of CNRD Meeting

The deterioration of the environmental and health situation in Gabès, as well as recent developments in the region, were at the center of the meeting of the Bureau of the National Council of Regions and Districts (CNRD), held yesterday, Thursday.

Opening the Session

Opening the session, CNRD President Imed Dherbali recalled the right of Gabès inhabitants to live in a healthy and safe environment, a right guaranteed by the Constitution to all citizens, according to a Council statement. He emphasized the urgency of taking necessary measures to put an end to toxic emissions, calling for responsible action and calm, constructive dialogue to respond to the legitimate demands of citizens.

Need for Inclusive Development

Dherbali also stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of an inclusive and integrated development approach, aiming to transform the Gabès region into a diversified and attractive economic hub for investments, considering its natural resources and human potential.

Decisions of the Council Bureau

According to the same source, the Council Bureau decided to:

  • Submit the 2026 finance bill to the various commissions and remain in permanent session during its examination
  • Transmit written questions from deputies to the concerned ministries, as well as the parliamentary proposal to create an inquiry commission on the deterioration of the environmental and health situation in Gabès, to the commissions in charge of production, services, and social development sectors, in order to study the details and develop an action plan
  • Approve the minutes of the meeting of the commission of presidents and representatives of districts held on October 13, 2025

The meeting highlighted the importance of addressing the environmental and health concerns in Gabès and the need for a comprehensive development approach to transform the region into a thriving economic hub.
