Life Returns to Normal in Gabès After Clashes Between Youths and Police
Life in the city of Gabès has returned to normal after clashes broke out on Wednesday between several young people and law enforcement officers. The police used tear gas to disperse protesters who were demonstrating against the deterioration of the environmental situation in the region. A peaceful march was organized on Wednesday, starting from the Martyrs' Square and heading towards the production units of the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT). The protesters chanted slogans calling for the dismantling of the GCT units, which are the source of atmospheric pollution in the city of Gabès. In a statement released on Thursday, the "Stop Pollution" movement claimed the application of the government's decision of June 29, 2017, to close the GCT's industrial units, as well as the cancellation of the decision of March 5, 2025, regarding the installation of two ammonia and hydrogen production plants in Gabès.
