Launch of Scientific Sessions to Inscribe Gabès Oases as National Heritage

The Regional Delegate for Cultural Affairs in Gabès, Naïma Haddar, announced on Monday the upcoming launch of scientific sessions aimed at inscribing the oases of Gabès as national heritage, a first step towards a potential UNESCO World Heritage nomination.

Announcement and Preparations

This announcement was made during a meeting at the governorate headquarters, dedicated to the preparations for the third edition of the Oasis Days (Journées de l'Oasis), organized by the Focus Gabès association from December 11 to 14. The Governor of Gabès, Radhouen Ncibi, highlighted the importance of the project and estimated that the event could contribute to its advancement.

Cultural Activities and Events

The third edition of the Oasis Days will feature cultural activities spread across Gabès-ville, Gabès-Ouest, and Gabès-Sud, including:

  • An exhibition by Mamia Taktak at the Focus Gabès headquarters
  • The presentation of an artistic residency by Seif Fraj during the opening
  • A roundtable discussion on water in the face of climate change in Chenini
  • Two artistic residencies presented by Nejib Belhaj at the Gabès Ethnographic Museum and by Hela Lamine at "Résidence K"
  • A concert by musician Nidhal Yahyaoui

Visits and Culinary Events

The program also includes a visit to the Tbelbou oasis and will conclude with the culinary event "La Cuisine de l'Oasis" at an agricultural farm in Chenini.
