Over 4,000 Dogs and Cats Vaccinated Against Rabies in Gabès Governorate
More than 4,000 dogs and cats have been vaccinated against rabies in the Gabès governorate as of September 22, representing a vaccination coverage rate of around 45%, according to Tarek Laayouni, Head of the Animal Production Department at the Regional Commissioner for Agricultural Development (CRDA).
As stated to the TAP Agency, the campaign aims to achieve a vaccination rate of over 80% across the entire governorate by the end of the campaign.
Tarek Laayouni indicated that the health situation related to rabies in the region has significantly improved. In 2025, only one case of an infected animal was recorded in Gabès, compared to several cases in previous years.
On the occasion of World Rabies Day, celebrated annually on September 28, the CRDA of Gabès plans to set up veterinary tents in all delegations of the governorate. The objective is twofold: to raise awareness among the population about this disease and to facilitate free vaccination of pets.
The national rabies vaccination campaign, which began in early September, will continue until the end of October.
