France's Highest Court Upholds Ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy's Conviction
The Court of Cassation, France's highest jurisdiction, confirmed on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the conviction of former President Nicolas Sarkozy for "illegal financing of an electoral campaign".
Aged 70, Mr. Sarkozy had appealed the 2024 judgment that found him guilty of illegally financing his failed 2012 re-election campaign. This judgment included a one-year prison sentence.
Six months of this sentence were suspended. The firm part of the sentence can be adjusted, allowing the former president to serve it through alternative means, such as wearing an electronic bracelet, without going to prison.
