Ex-President Faces 27 Years in Prison for Alleged Attempted Coup
Brazilian authorities have arrested former President Jair Bolsonaro, who was under house arrest and sentenced to 27 years in prison for an attempted coup, according to his lawyer and a source close to the case, although the reasons for the arrest were not specified.
Lawyer Celso Vilardi stated to AFP on Saturday, November 22, 2025, that Bolsonaro "was arrested, but I am unaware of the reason."
Meanwhile, the Brazilian police indicated in a statement that they had executed a preventive arrest warrant issued by the Supreme Court, while a source close to the case confirmed that the person arrested was indeed Jair Bolsonaro.
