Tunisia to Host New Industrial Unit in Plastic Shoe Sector

Tunisia may soon welcome a new industrial unit in the plastic shoe sector, courtesy of Ivorian investor Mahmoud Mohyeddine, who has Lebanese roots. The project, currently in the study phase, aims to create approximately 400 direct jobs in the first stage and could eventually shift its focus towards exporting to European markets.

Investor Seeks to Expand Operations in North Africa

The initiative was discussed during a meeting held in Tunis between Manel Rouis, the deputy general director of the Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Innovation (APII), investor Mahmoud Mohyeddine, and his partner Ali Hajjaji, in the presence of a representative from the Agency for the Promotion of External Investment.

The discussions centered on investment opportunities in Tunisia and the necessary procedures for setting up an industrial project in the plastic products and shoe sector.

Investor's Background and Plans

Mahmoud Mohyeddine, who operates two industrial units in Côte d'Ivoire specializing in plastic shoe manufacturing and employing nearly 900 people, is looking to expand his activities in North Africa. The Tunisian project aims to initially target the local market before gradually shifting towards an export strategy, particularly to Europe.

The investor is currently studying several potential sites to host the new unit, relying on Tunisia's advantages, including the availability of skilled labor and the competitiveness of the country's industrial fabric.

APII's Support and Incentives

The APII presented the support mechanisms and financial incentives offered to investors, as well as the tax incentives put in place by the Tunisian government to encourage the creation of industrial projects, particularly in sectors with high employment intensity.

This project aligns with a trend of diversifying foreign investments in Tunisia, with a growing interest in manufacturing industries with high export potential and job creation.
