Tunisian Forward Wahbi Khazri Announces Retirement from Football

Tunisian offensive midfielder Wahbi Khazri has officially announced his retirement from football, bringing an end to a nearly fifteen-year career marked by stints in several European clubs and notable performances with the Tunisian national team.

In an interview with French channel CANAL+, Khazri explained that the time had come to turn the page and expressed his deep gratitude towards football, all his coaches and teammates, while extending a special thank you to Tunisia, the country he had the honor of representing in two World Cups.

Since his decision to play for Tunisia in 2013, Khazri has played 74 international matches and scored 25 goals, ranking him as the second-best scorer in the history of the national team. He participated in five editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021) and the 2018 World Cup in Russia and 2022 in Qatar, where he scored memorable goals against Belgium, Panama, and France.

At the club level, Khazri played for teams such as Bastia, Bordeaux, Sunderland, Rennes, Saint-Étienne, and Montpellier, his last club before retiring at 34, despite receiving offers from Gulf clubs.

Among his notable achievements, the player will remain in the memory of fans for his historic goal against France during the 2022 World Cup, as well as his famous goal against Metz with Saint-Étienne from 68.3 meters, considered the longest in the history of the French Ligue 1.
