Restaurant in Nabeul Shut Down Following Food Poisoning Outbreak
The President of the National Food Safety and Security Agency, Mohamed Rabhi, has provided clarification on the food poisoning incident that affected customers of a restaurant in the city of Nabeul. According to the initial findings of the investigation, the incident was caused by cross-contamination resulting from the mixing of raw and cooked foods, a practice that facilitates the rapid proliferation of bacteria and microbes.
Speaking on Jawhara FM, Mohamed Rabhi stated that the control teams immediately visited the scene. The inspection revealed severe breaches of food safety standards, particularly in terms of refrigeration and storage procedures. The agents found that fresh products such as meat, fruits, and eggs were stored alongside cooked foods without distinction. In addition to these storage errors, a hygiene issue was identified, with the restaurant staff failing to regularly wash their hands.
In light of the gravity of the situation, the authorities took drastic and immediate measures. Mohamed Rabhi announced the closure of the establishment to interrupt the chain of contamination, adding that a criminal investigation has also been launched.
In conclusion, the responsible official called for vigilance, emphasizing the crucial importance of respecting all sanitary protocols. He particularly stressed the need to maintain the cold chain and general hygiene rules, measures that are all the more essential in this period of rising temperatures.
