The death toll from floods and landslides in Indonesia has risen to over 200, with more than a hundred people still missing, according to the Disaster Management Agency, which announced the news on Friday night. The spokesperson for the Disaster Management Agency in West Sumatra province, Ilham Wahab, stated on Friday evening: "As of tonight, 61 people have died and 90 others are still missing." A previous report had mentioned 23 deaths. In North Sumatra, the number of victims has reached 116, and in Aceh province, there have been at least 35 deaths. Like Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, Indonesia is experiencing heavy rainfall that has caused deaths and significant damage in recent days. The monsoon rainy season, which runs from June to September, brings heavy precipitation, leading to landslides, floods, and waterborne diseases. Earlier this month, 38 people were killed in landslides caused by heavy rainfall in central Java, and around 13 people were still missing.
