Air Travel Prices Soar Between France and Algeria, Prompting Travelers to Seek Alternative Routes

As the summer season approaches, air travel prices between France and Algeria have skyrocketed, prompting many travelers to explore alternative routes to reach their destination. In response to this situation, some Algerians living in France are now considering a route that passes through Tunisia, combining a flight to Tunis with a train journey to Algeria.

During the peak summer months of July and August, airfare prices for direct flights to Algiers have reached unprecedented levels. On certain dates, round-trip tickets departing from Paris have exceeded €900 and even reached €1,000, a direct result of the high demand for flights between the two countries.

In response to this situation, some travelers are choosing to postpone their trips until after the summer or exploring less conventional routes. One such option is the route via Tunis, which has gained popularity due to the regular train connection between the Tunisian capital and Algeria.

According to data provided by Visa Algérie, low-cost airlines have significant price differences depending on the carrier. Transavia, for example, offers a one-way ticket from Paris-Orly to Tunis in August for around €220 in the basic formula, without checked baggage. The price increases to approximately €284 with a more comfortable baggage option.

For round-trip tickets, prices also rise during the summer. With Transavia, a trip from Paris to Tunis can cost around €648 in the basic tariff and over €770 with additional options. From Lyon or Marseille, prices remain high but are sometimes lower than those observed on certain direct flights to Algeria.

In contrast, the British airline easyJet displays significantly higher prices on certain summer dates. According to the same source, a round-trip ticket from Paris-Orly to Tunis with checked baggage can exceed €1,100 in August.

On the other hand, the Tunisian airline Nouvelair offers prices considered more accessible during the peak season. A round-trip ticket from Paris-CDG to Tunis in July, for example, is listed at around €461, excluding checked baggage.

In addition to air travel costs, travelers must also consider the cost of the train journey between Tunis and Algiers. According to information provided by Visa Algérie, the round-trip train ticket is available from 3,040 Algerian dinars in second class and 3,485 dinars in first class.

While this solution involves a longer journey with more connections, it has attracted some travelers who want to reduce their expenses or enjoy a short stopover in Tunisia before reaching Algeria. However, the economic interest of this option depends heavily on the chosen airline and the dates of booking, as price differences remain significant during the summer.
