Teams Qualified for the 2026 World Cup Finalize Their Base Camp Choices in Canada, Mexico, and the United States
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) announced on Tuesday that the teams qualified for the 2026 World Cup have finalized their base camp choices in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, marking an important step in the organization of the first World Cup with 48 nations.
Tunisia, which qualified for the World Cup for the seventh time in its history and fourth consecutive time, has chosen Monterrey, Mexico, as its base camp, located within the Rayados Training Center facilities, according to the list released by FIFA.
The three other teams that will face Tunisia in the group stage have opted for the following base camps:
- The Netherlands will be based in Kansas City (KC Current Training Facility)
- Japan will be based in Nashville (Nashville SC)
- Sweden will be based in Dallas (FC Dallas Stadium)
The base camps will serve as centers of life and preparation for the teams during the group stage of the competition, scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 in North America, as specified by the international organization.
According to FIFA, 39 teams will be based in the United States, seven in Mexico, and two in Canada.
The teams that have chosen Mexico as their base camp are:
- Colombia
- Iran
- South Korea
- Mexico
- South Africa
- Tunisia
- Uruguay
Canada and Panama will establish their bases in Canada.
In total, 25 communities not among the 16 host cities will welcome national teams, allowing, according to FIFA, to expand the economic and popular impact of the tournament across North America.
"The base camps of the teams are an integral part of the very fabric of any FIFA World Cup," said Heimo Schirgi, Director of Operations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in a statement released by FIFA. "This is where the teams settle, train, recover, and live in the daily rhythm of the competition."
FIFA notes that the process of selecting base camps began in 2024 with an initial list of proposed facilities offered to the federations, before being refined throughout 2025. The final choices were made after the final World Cup draw, held in December 2025.
Among the selected communities are New Tecumseth in Canada, Cancun, Pachuca, and Tijuana in Mexico, as well as Alexandria, Austin, Boca Raton, Charlotte, Nashville, Portland, San Diego, and Tampa in the United States.
