Official Date of Aïd el-Adha 2026 to be Announced in France
The official date of Aïd el-Adha 2026 in France will be announced by the Grand Mosque of Paris after observing the lunar crescent of the month of Dhou al-Hijja 1447 of the Hijri calendar, in accordance with the prevailing religious process.
This announcement will follow the meeting of the commission responsible for observing the lunar crescent, which will take place on Sunday, May 17, 2026, as per the data from the International Astronomical Center.
The Grand Mosque of Paris, the main Muslim institution in the country, will rely on the results of this observation to confirm the beginning of the month of Dhou al-Hijja and the date of the Day of Arafat, celebrated on the 9th day of the lunar month.
Aïd el-Adha will then be celebrated on the 10th day of Dhou al-Hijja, in line with the Islamic calendar and official announcements made by national religious authorities.
In France, as in other European countries, this announcement holds particular importance for the faithful, particularly due to the organization of collective prayers, preparations for the feast, and family travel related to this major celebration of the Muslim calendar.
