Tunisian Minister of Commerce and Export Development Meets with Private Sector Representatives to Address Price Increases

Minister of Commerce and Export Development, Samir Abid, Chairs Meeting with Private Sector Representatives to Discuss Price Situation and Ways to Improve Control

In a context marked by significant geopolitical changes, the Minister of Commerce and Export Development, Samir Abid, presided over a meeting with representatives from the private sector, industries, producers, and large commercial establishments to examine the situation of prices and find ways to better control them.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce, this meeting aims to preserve the purchasing power of citizens in the face of rising prices of several consumer products, including household cleaning products, personal hygiene articles, and certain food products.

The Minister emphasized that this meeting is part of a participatory approach between the public and private sectors. He noted that the geopolitical changes occurring at the international level have had direct repercussions on markets and the costs of several essential consumer products.

Samir Abid estimated that this situation requires concerted work between the administration and economic actors to identify solutions capable of preserving the Tunisian industrial fabric, supporting economic dynamics, and ensuring the sustainability of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Minister also stressed the need to encourage local production while protecting the household basket and consumers' purchasing power.

At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed to continue this approach of consultation and solidarity to mitigate the impact of global fluctuations on the prices of certain products. They also called for strengthening Tunisian exports, particularly those with high added value, and reducing as much as possible the importation of non-essential consumer products.

Practical measures are expected to be implemented in the near future, according to the same source.
