Winning Research Project Aims to Develop Rapid Cardiac Disease Screening Technique

The winning research project of this edition aims to develop a rapid cardiac disease screening technique through blood sample analysis. Mohamed Bjaoui, a pharmacy lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Monastir, won first place in the 2nd edition of the Faba Health Grant - Amina Ben Ayed Prize, awarded by the Abdelwahab-Ben Ayed Foundation. In a statement to the TAP agency, Bjaoui explained that the research project that earned him this prize aims to develop a rapid and simplified cardiac disease screening technique, such as heart failure and stroke, by analyzing a blood sample with results available in 15 minutes. This allows for direct referral of the patient to the appropriate specialist for medical intervention. He expressed hope that, thanks to this grant, he could develop the prototype of this technique within two years in a laboratory research setting, emphasizing that its generalization would require the intervention of international pharmaceutical companies for its manufacture and marketing. He added that he is currently working on another research project aimed at enabling patients undergoing chemotherapy or antibiotics and suffering from kidney disease to obtain substitute medications without renal side effects, allowing them to continue their treatment safely. It is worth noting that the Abdelwahab-Ben Ayad Faba Health Foundation Grant - Amina Ben Ayad Prize, which was awarded for the second time on Friday evening, aims to encourage young researchers in the fields of health and scientific innovation. The jury, composed of high-level experts, announced the victory of four researchers, each of whom was awarded a grant worth 30,000 Tunisian dinars.
