Tunisia Aims to Establish a New Energy Model Based on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, and Demand Management
Tunisia's Secretary of State for Energy Transition, Wael Chouchane, has announced that the country is working to establish a new energy model based on the development of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and demand management. He emphasized the importance of innovation, encouraging young talents and start-ups in the fields of energy, digitalization, and green technologies.
Speaking at a ceremony in Tunis on Wednesday, marking the 14th Arab Day of Energy Efficiency, Chouchane highlighted the significance of digitalization as a key driver for improving energy management in buildings, industrial, commercial, and tourist facilities, as well as in transportation networks, distribution systems, and infrastructure.
According to a statement from the Ministry, Chouchane noted that energy data, intelligent management systems, and digital solutions have become effective tools for improving energy efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy. He also stressed the need to develop Arab skills capable of designing technological solutions and high-value-added services to support a sustainable energy transition.
The 14th edition of the Arab Day of Energy Efficiency is organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, in cooperation with the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, and in coordination with the National Agency for Energy Management, as part of the National Conference on Sustainable and Innovative Energy Transition, held on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Agency.
This edition is themed: "The Best Project Using Digitalization and Intelligent Applications to Improve Energy Efficiency in Commercial and Tourist Establishments in Arab Countries."
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Secretary-General and President of the Tunis Center of the League of Arab States, Mohamed Salah Ben Aissa, several ambassadors, the Director of International Cooperation and Strategic Partnerships at the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Nadia Chioukh, Dr. Asma Hamadia, a professor at the Department of Energy Sciences at the University of Boumerdès in Algeria, and the Director-General of the National Agency for Energy Management, Nafaa Bekari.
Participants in a roundtable discussion emphasized the importance of accelerating digital transformation and integrating intelligent technologies into energy efficiency systems. They also stressed the need to strengthen Arab cooperation and exchange of expertise and best practices to support sustainable development goals, reduce carbon emissions, and improve energy consumption efficiency and resource management.
The discussion also covered the prospects of digitalization and intelligent applications in the energy sector of Arab countries, as well as the importance of raising awareness among citizens and institutions about good practices related to energy rationalization and performance improvement.
