Investigation Opened into Alleged Child Abuse at Private Nursery in Tunisia

A judicial investigation was launched on Monday into suspected child abuse at a private nursery in Ennasr, in the governorate of Ariana. The investigation targets eight individuals, with seven being held in custody, according to a judicial source cited by the Tunis Afrique Presse agency.

Eight Suspects Pursued, Including Four Alleged Perpetrators

The individuals under investigation include four men, considered the primary alleged perpetrators. They are being prosecuted for indecent assault without consent on a child under the age of 16. The charges are aggravated by the authority exercised over the victim and the abuse of function, resulting in harm. They are also accused of habitual mistreatment of a minor and kidnapping a minor under the age of 18 by deceit.

Four women are also implicated in the investigation, including the nursery owner, director, and two educators. They are being prosecuted for complicity in the aforementioned acts and for neglecting a child unable to protect themselves in a place exposing them to danger, while they had custody and authority over the child.

International Arrest Warrant Issued for Nursery Owner

The nursery owner is currently on the run, and an international arrest warrant has been issued. According to the same judicial source, if the facts are confirmed, the penalties can range up to life imprisonment, including for accomplices.

Investigation Entrusted to an Investigating Judge

The opening of a judicial investigation leads to the appointment of an investigating judge responsible for conducting the investigation. The judge will determine the responsibilities of each individual and establish the final charges based on the investigation's findings.

At this stage, all suspects remain presumed innocent until a final judgment is pronounced in this case, which has sparked widespread emotion in public opinion.
