Local Electric Vehicle Market Struggles with Insufficient Supply
The local market for electric vehicles is being stifled by a lack of supply at the dealership level, revealed Abdelhamid Kanouni, Director of Energy Efficiency at the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME).
In an interview with the Al Maghreb newspaper, the official specified that only nine out of 48 authorized dealerships in Tunisia currently offer electric vehicles to consumers.
This limited supply is a major obstacle to the development of the sector, despite the recognized economic and energy efficiency of this technology and growing demand. Mr. Kanouni estimated that the total number of electric and hybrid cars on the road in Tunisia remains modest compared to these benefits.
To support future growth in the market, the ANME is already working on a pilot project to install 60 charging points across the country, in collaboration with governorates and municipalities.
