Tunisia Celebrates Eid al-Adha Alongside Many Muslim Countries
This Wednesday, May 27, 2026, Tunisia joins numerous Muslim countries in celebrating Eid al-Adha, while pilgrims continue to perform the rites of the Hajj at the sacred sites of Islam.
In several Arab and Muslim countries, faithful individuals have marked this Wednesday with the celebration of the Festival of Sacrifice, characterized by Eid prayers and traditional religious and family customs associated with the occasion.
However, some countries will observe Eid al-Adha on Thursday, May 28, 2026, including India, Bangladesh, Brunei, and South Africa, due to differences in observing the lunar crescent and determining the start of the month of Dhul Hijja.
The Mufti of the Tunisian Republic, Hichem Ben Mahmoud, had previously announced in a statement that Sunday, May 17, 2026, corresponded to the last day of the month of Dhul Qi’da 1447 of the Hijri calendar, specifying that Wednesday, May 27, would be the first day of Eid al-Adha in Tunisia.
Note: The dates for Eid al-Adha may vary depending on the country's lunar calendar and the sighting of the crescent moon.
