Moderate Meat Consumption Advised During Eid Al Adha to Avoid Health Complications
In the context of Eid Al Adha, Dr. Sami Hajjaji, a specialist in internal medicine, has called for moderate meat consumption to avoid health complications related to excessive eating during this period.
In a statement to the TAP agency, the specialist recommended cooking meat in the oven after removing excess fat or grilling it moderately without burning. He warned that carbonizing meat and the appearance of charred areas can lead to the formation of carcinogenic substances that increase the risk of digestive cancers.
Dr. Hajjaji also emphasized the importance of accompanying meals with raw or cooked vegetables rich in fiber to facilitate digestion. He recommended limiting meat portions to the size of the palm of the hand per person and spreading meat consumption throughout the day to avoid digestive problems such as bloating, abdominal pain, and stomach heaviness.
The specialist also warned against excessive consumption of fatty meats due to their effects on cholesterol, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and other health issues.
He advised individuals with diabetes or hypertension to limit salt, sugar, pastries, and starchy foods, while prioritizing vegetables and regular monitoring of their blood sugar and blood pressure levels during Eid.
Finally, Dr. Hajjaji recommended a light breakfast, good hydration, physical activity, and adherence to hygiene and food storage rules for meat consumption during Eid.
