Discussion of the Ministry of Education's Budget for 2026 Begins

The discussion of the Ministry of Education's budget for 2026 started on Thursday morning, during a plenary session at the Assembly of People's Representatives. The ministry's budget has been set at 8,700 million dinars, compared to 8,044 million dinars for 2025, representing an increase of 656 million dinars, or a 8.16% rise. The breakdown of educational program expenses is as follows:

  • 3,233,482 thousand dinars for primary education programs
  • 4,601,538 thousand dinars for basic and secondary education programs
  • 4,601,538 thousand dinars for leadership and support programs

The joint report of the Education, Vocational Training, Scientific Research, Youth, and Sports Committee of the Assembly of People's Representatives and the Services and Social Development Committee of the National Council of Regions and Districts indicates that the ministry will allocate part of the planned recruitment for 2026 to regularize the status of primary education substitute teachers (4,811 positions) and recruit holders of a applied license in education and teaching - June 2024 promotion (2,601 positions).

Regarding the basic and secondary education program, the status of substitutes (9,026 positions) will be regularized, 100 graduated cadres from the Higher School of Teachers will be recruited, the status of 1,226 contractual agents in charge of supervision and laboratories will be regularized, as well as that of canteen agents.

During 2026, the ministry will program 18,349 recruitments, estimated to be worth 722.4 million dinars. Additionally, 717 million dinars have been allocated to investment expenses, including 157 million for the creation of 19 new educational institutions and 392.1 million dinars for the rehabilitation of educational institutions' infrastructure, representing an increase of over 51% compared to 2025, which will enable the renovation and maintenance of 464 institutions.

The ministry will also prioritize educational institutions in rural areas by allocating 141 million dinars to the acquisition of computer equipment and supplies, in addition to programming the acquisition of 73 buses to strengthen the rural school transportation fleet.
