Ministry of Health Calls for Vigilance as Ebola Outbreak Spreads in DRC
May 21, 2026
The Ministry of Health has issued a statement today, May 21, 2026, expressing its close attention to the evolving epidemiological situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) following the publication of data by the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Africa) and the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the emergence of an Ebola virus outbreak.
According to the statement, no direct threat has been registered for Tunisia to date, and competent services continue to closely monitor the situation in coordination with international and regional partners.
The Ministry of Health expresses its solidarity with the Congolese health authorities and people, and commends the efforts of coordination led by CDC Africa, in collaboration with the WHO and other partners, to contain the outbreak and limit its spread.
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that these developments highlight the importance of epidemiological vigilance, timely information sharing, and strengthening of health systems, particularly within the framework of African common cooperation.
The Ministry of Health advises Tunisians residing, working, or traveling in the Democratic Republic of Congo to exercise vigilance, particularly in areas where cases have been reported. They are advised to avoid direct contact with anyone displaying symptoms such as fever, intense fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea, or bleeding, and to avoid using personal effects.
The Ministry of Health reminds that the Ebola virus primarily transmits through direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected or deceased person, or through contaminated objects, and generally does not transmit through the air or casual contact.
In the event of symptom onset within 21 days of returning from a affected area, the Ministry of Health recommends contacting competent health services before visiting a healthcare facility, to ensure the case can be handled in a secure manner.
