Tunisian Association of Democratic Women Rejects Proposed Law on Early Retirement for Women

The Tunisian Association of Democratic Women (ATFD) expressed its principled rejection of the proposed law n°104 of 2025 related to voluntary early retirement for women (at 50 years old) in the private sector without the condition of having three children, calling for its immediate withdrawal.

In a statement published on its official page, the ATFD considers that this proposed law opposes the principle of equality between men and women, hinders women's professional careers, and deprives them of advancing and accessing decision-making positions.

According to the association, this proposal also infringes on the right to decent work by transforming the "voluntary" nature into a form of indirect pressure, in a context of persistent precariousness for many female employees in the private sector.

Furthermore, the ATFD estimates that the expansion of access to early retirement could exacerbate the financial difficulties of social security funds, particularly the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), due to the risk of depletion of its resources.

The same source notes that seeking solutions to the economic crisis or male unemployment cannot be done at the expense of women's rights or by excluding them from employment.

In this context, the ATFD has called for the opening of a national debate involving social partners, civil society, and public institutions to engage in a fair and inclusive reform of the retirement and social security system.
