Global “Resilience” (Soumoud) Flotilla Turns Back to Barcelona Amid Bad Weather
The global Resilience flotilla (Soumoud), made up of 20 vessels, has turned around and returned to the port of Barcelona because of adverse weather conditions and strong winds.
Spanish media reported that the organizers will meet to decide whether to resume the voyage later on Monday. Among the activists taking part in the action—coming from dozens of countries—are Greta Thunberg, actors Liam Cunningham (Ireland) and Eduard Fernández (Spain), as well as European Parliament members, public figures, and former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau.
The flotilla had planned to reach Gaza in mid‑September. This mission follows two previous attempts, blocked by the occupying authority, to deliver humanitarian aid by sea to the Palestinian territory.
The United Nations has declared that famine has been recognized in Gaza, warning that 500,000 people are facing “catastrophic” conditions.
