The number of wanted individuals placed in custody between January 1 and February 15, 2026, has reached 2,953, announced Nabil Chetti, Central Director of the General Directorate of National Security, under the Ministry of the Interior, on Tuesday, February 17. Speaking on National Radio, he presented the balance of security operations carried out across the country's different regions. Between January and mid-February 2026, 1,955 wanted individuals were apprehended during the month of January, while 998 others were arrested during the first two weeks of February. These interventions are part of security campaigns conducted by public security units to combat crime, apprehend individuals subject to search warrants, and strengthen citizen security and public space protection.
Looking back at 2025, Nabil Chetti indicated that the General Directorate of Public Security units conducted 149,661 security campaigns nationwide. Among these operations, over 23,000 were carried out near schools to protect students and combat the spread of drugs in schools. In total, the 2025 campaigns resulted in the placement of 24,041 individuals in custody, under the instruction of the public prosecutor.
The security official emphasized that units are deployed across the national territory based on a strategy founded on the analysis of risk zones and sensitive points identified by competent services. He affirmed that the fight against narcotics is currently the major priority of security action, ensuring that high commands and field units remain fully mobilized to intensify controls and dismantle networks.
