Djerba Midoun Crocodile Park Continues to Attract Visitors
The Djerba Midoun tourist area's crocodile park, which opened in 2001, remains a popular destination, drawing in large crowds of visitors. Initially, the park was home to 400 crocodiles, a number that has grown to 600 this year, with animals ranging in age from 1 month to 27 years, according to information provided by park officials to IFM's correspondent in Médenine, Maimoun Ben Ahmed.
Population Control and Exchange
Park officials manage the crocodile population by removing eggs to be artificially incubated on-site. The park also exchanges crocodiles with similar facilities. For example, in May 2022, 90 crocodiles aged 4 to 26 years were sent to a park in Dubai.
High Attendance
The crocodile park attracts visitors from Djerba, surrounding regions, and all over Tunisia, as well as tourists and foreigners residing on the island. The summer of 2019 saw a record attendance, with over 50,000 visitors, the highest number ever recorded since the park's opening until the summer of 2025.
