Warning Against the Dangers of Unregulated Dietary Supplements
Dr. Maha Ben Mallem Hachicha, a specialist in geriatrics and general medicine, has sounded the alarm on the dangers of dietary supplements of unknown origin. During an interview on National Radio on Thursday, December 18, 2025, the practitioner warned against the anarchic and excessive use of these products. She revealed that some patients have reached the stage of terminal renal failure (dialysis) due to misuse. According to her, unofficial and unregulated distribution channels have devastating consequences on human health. In response to this finding, Rafik Chehida, Secretary General of the pharmacists' union (Southern section), called for the urgent establishment of a legal framework to regulate the manufacture of dietary supplements. For his part, Abdelraouf Fkiri, rapporteur of the health commission at the Assembly of People's Representatives (ARP), indicated that a parliamentary initiative has been recently submitted. It was agreed, as a first step, to develop a specific specification book for this sector. The Minister of Health, Mustafa Ferjani, sought to reassure by stating that a draft law setting the conditions for the use and promotion mechanisms of dietary supplements should be introduced before the end of 2025.
