Mojtaba Khamenei, Newly Appointed Iranian Supreme Leader, Injured on the First Day of the War, Source Says
Mojtaba Khamenei, who was recently named Iran’s new supreme guide, was reportedly wounded on the opening day of the conflict, according to an informed source cited by CNN. The source says he suffered a foot fracture and minor facial injuries.
The same source adds that the 56‑year‑old Iranian official also has a bruise around his left eye and several superficial scratches.
Iranian Ambassador to Cyprus Confirms the Attack
Iran’s ambassador to Cyprus, Ali Reza Salarian, told the British daily The Guardian on Wednesday that Mojtaba Khamenei was injured in the same airstrike that killed his father, Ali Khamenei, along with five other family members.
According to the diplomat, Mojtaba’s absence from public view since his appointment can be explained by his health condition.
“I don’t think he is in a sufficiently comfortable state to deliver a speech,” he said.
No Public Appearances Since Designation
Since being designated as the country’s new leader, the newly appointed guide has made no public appearances and has not delivered any address, fueling speculation about his health and the circumstances surrounding the attack.
