The public prosecutor at the Tunis First‑Instance Court has ordered the Economic and Financial Investigations Sub‑Directorate of the Judicial Police to look into a complaint filed by the company Ellouhoum against Ahmed Lamiri, president of the National Butchers’ Trade Union.

The complaint alleges that public funds belonging to the state‑owned company were misappropriated after a power of attorney was issued by several butchers to procure imported refrigerated meat.

Ahmed Lamiri is also suspected of manipulating distribution channels by using the tax identifiers of some butchers without their knowledge to withdraw meat from Ellouhoum and then resell it through other circuits for speculative purposes.

A judicial source told TAP Agency that, after receiving the investigation report, a judicial inquiry was opened with the Economic and Financial Judicial Division.

The same source added that, following the hearing of Ahmed Lamiri, the chief investigating magistrate of the Economic and Financial Judicial Division issued, on Tuesday, a detention order against him on charges of money‑laundering.

He is further accused of exploiting the privileges of his position for monopoly, illicit speculation and breach of trust, the judicial source reiterated.
