Sports Community in Uproar Over Arrest of Club President
The sports community has been in an uproar for the past two days following the arrest of the president of Avenir Sportif de Kasserine. The individual is suspected of attempting to bribe a player from Jendouba Sport before the scheduled match between the two clubs for the first day of the professional League 2 championship this Sunday.
During a phone intervention on the "Sabah El Ward" show on Mosaïque FM, Amer Chaabani, the spokesperson for the Avenir de Kasserine management committee, explained that on September 14, a player agent was arrested in the city of Jendouba. The agent had contacted a Jendouba Sport player and offered him a bank check in the name of Avenir Sportif de Kasserine, signed by the club's president, in exchange for manipulating the match result.
Chaabani specified that the agent had received the check from the club president as payment for his fees for bringing in two players. The agent then led the player to believe that the club president wanted to "buy" the match scheduled for this Sunday. The spokesperson added that coordination between the president of Jendouba, the player, and security forces allowed for a sting operation that led to the agent's arrest. Although the agent was released after being questioned, a detention warrant was issued against the president of Avenir Sportif de Kasserine, Rochdi Laidoudi.
For his part, Latif Abidi, spokesperson for Jendouba Sport, stated that the complaint was initially filed only against the intermediary after his attempt to bribe the goalkeeper was recorded. He added that the investigation revealed the involvement of other parties and that justice is the only competent authority to determine responsibilities.
