National Defense Minister Khaled Shili: Security Situation in the Country is "Relatively Stable and Continuously Improving"

National Defense Minister Khaled Shili stated that the country's security situation is "relatively stable and continuously improving" despite changes in the regional and global context. He reviewed the efforts made by the army and security forces, particularly through proactive operations in the fight against terrorism, organized crime, and anticipating the movements of suspicious elements. During the joint plenary session of the two legislative chambers, held on Tuesday afternoon at the Bardo Palace, dedicated to examining the mission of the Ministry of National Defense, the minister highlighted the magnitude of the challenges posed by a geopolitical context that is "ambiguous and uncertain" and undergoing transformation. In the face of these significant challenges, the minister affirmed that the military institution is called upon to demonstrate rapid response through the development of an approach based on an objective and in-depth evaluation of the current situation. To achieve this, he recommended that the military institution proactively address changes by striving to acquire the necessary capabilities to maintain a high level of preparedness and intervention capacity, enabling it to react with the required promptness and efficiency in the face of recurring crises. Furthermore, the Defense Minister stated that protecting borders and combating terrorism and transnational organized crime are two aspects that are at the forefront of the priorities set by the military institution. In this context, he highlighted the ongoing efforts made to counter threats at various levels - in a preventive manner, through intelligence and preparation - to defend the country's territorial integrity. He declared that these efforts and operations on the ground have enabled the tightening of the noose around terrorist elements, allowing for the anticipation of their movements and depriving them of any initiative to carry out attacks.
